Gustav Gurschner

Gustav Gurschner (1873-1970) was an Austrian sculptor, medallist and craftsman who, as a founding member of the Vienna Secession and the Hagenbund, made a significant contribution to Viennese arts and crafts around 1900.

Trained at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, he spent time studying in Munich and Paris before settling permanently in Vienna in 1898. During his lifetime, Gurschner was highly regarded as a portraitist and medallist.

Gurschner's archaic-looking bronze vessels with characteristic ornamentation and his eclectically designed everyday objects form a separate area of Art Nouveau collecting.
